In 1985 the Denman Island Arts & Crafts Society was formed by a group of dedicated islanders and established as a nonprofit society with charitable status. In 2004 the name was changed to Arts Denman.
Mission Statement
Arts Denman aims to:
- Foster the development of cultural activities and facilities on Denman Island
- Provide gallery and performance space for Denman Island artists and artisans
- Develop arts educational programs on Denman Island
Background
Arts Denman was formed in 1985 by community-minded volunteers who wanted to promote a variety of art disciplines. Originally, the non-profit organization was called the Denman Island Arts & Crafts Society. In 2004 the name was changed to Arts Denman.
Arts Denman and its seven partner organizations support and enrich the cultural environment of Denman Island. In turn, we are supported by the community through donations of volunteer work and money as well as enthusiastic participation in our many events and activities.
We also gratefully receive financial support from the British Columbia Arts Council
We encourage Denman Island residents and visitors to become annual Arts Denman members to show your support for our work.
Commitment to Diversity and Inclusivity
Arts Denman strives to support inclusivity by being an organization open to all. This includes working with a diverse spectrum of artists and artisans and also maximizing accessibility and participation by audience members and other community arts supporters.
Arts Denman acknowledges that the land on which we live and create is part of the traditional territories of peoples of the Coast Salish and Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw Nations.
